At 130 mg/L Aurora is a moderate case. Softening is worth doing where there is modern, scale-sensitive equipment to protect — and much of Aurora's growth over the last two decades came with high-efficiency and tankless water heating, which is precisely that equipment. In older Aurora housing closer to the historic core, the honest answer is more often that the benefit is real but gradual, and we would rather say so than oversell it.
