Above the escarpment, rural north Burlington is largely on private wells, and that is a materially different problem. Hardness can run at multiple times the municipal figure, and groundwater in this part of Halton commonly carries iron and sulphur alongside it. A softener on its own is the wrong purchase there — not merely insufficient, but actively compromised, because iron coats softener resin and steadily strips its capacity. Sediment comes out first, then iron and sulphur, then hardness, then ultraviolet disinfection last on water that is already clear.
If you are on a well above the escarpment, the number that matters is not Burlington's municipal figure. It is whatever a lab says about your own well, which is why we sample before we quote rather than after.
