Halton Hills changed its water.

Georgetown moved to Lake Ontario in late 2024 — from roughly 340 mg/L to about 125. Acton is still on wells.

how hard is your water?

Hardness is dissolved calcium and magnesium. Past about 120 mg/L it starts quietly costing you — in scale, in soap, and in appliances that die early.

Halton Hills is two different water supplies.

The lake-fed zones run around 125 mg/L. The well-fed zones run around 340 mg/L — more than twice as hard, from the same municipality. Which one you are on decides which system you need, and it is not something you can tell from the tap.

Halton Hills is the one municipality in the region where the correct answer changed recently, and a lot of homeowners have not caught up.

For decades Georgetown ran entirely on groundwater from municipal well fields, at something around 340 mg/L — genuinely very hard water. Through the Georgetown Water Transfer Project, Halton began supplying Lake Ontario water to thousands of Georgetown households from November 2024, and lake supply runs closer to 125 mg/L. That is not a marginal change. It is roughly a two-thirds reduction in hardness at the same address.

Acton, meanwhile, remains on its own municipal well fields and has not transitioned.

This has two practical consequences. If you bought a softener in Georgetown before the changeover, it was specified for water that no longer arrives at your house — it may now be regenerating far more often than the water warrants, costing you salt for nothing. If you are being quoted for a new system in Georgetown, make sure whoever is quoting knows which supply your street is actually on now, because a system sized off the old groundwater figure is the wrong system.

We would not guess at this from a postcode. It is a ten-minute test at your tap, and in Halton Hills it is the single most worthwhile ten minutes in the region.

What we install here

Which system depends on your zone. Lake-fed addresses usually need softening alone; well-fed addresses need iron and sulphur handled first. The on-site test settles it in about ten minutes.

What we install

three systems. that's the whole catalogue.

Most homes need one of the first two. If you're on a well, you need the third and it needs a water sample before anyone can quote it honestly.

The whole reason we exist

rented water treatment never stops costing you.

The national providers rent softeners at $30–$48 a month with no end date. Move the sliders and find the month where renting overtakes simply buying the thing.

Rental range reflects published 2026 GTA rates. Purchase range reflects installed market pricing. Salt and servicing excluded — you pay those either way.

Common questions

water in Halton Hills, answered.

How hard is the water in Halton Hills?

Halton Hills water measures about 125 mg/L, which is 7.3 grains per gallon — classified hard. Supply: Georgetown on Lake Ontario since late 2024; Acton still on municipal groundwater wells. Figures from Halton Region; Georgetown Water Transfer Project (Lake Ontario supply phased in from November 2024). Actual hardness varies by pressure zone and season, so an on-site test is the only way to know yours exactly.

Why do people in Halton Hills report different water hardness?

Because Halton Hills has two supplies. The lake-fed zones run around 125 mg/L and the well-fed zones around 340 mg/L — more than twice as hard, in the same municipality. Which one you are on decides which system you need, and you cannot tell from a postcode.

How do I find out which zone I am in?

A ten-minute test at your own tap. It costs nothing and it settles the question, which matters here because a softener sized for lake water will regenerate constantly on a well-fed address and still not keep up.

Do I own the equipment, or is it rented?

You own it outright from the day it is installed. There is no monthly rental, no contract term, and nothing registered against your home. It transfers with the house when you sell.
