King Township is a single municipality containing two quite different waters, and which one you have depends on which village you live in.
King City is on York Region's blended supply — Lake Ontario surface water mixed with groundwater — and comes in around 131 mg/L. That is moderately hard, and a straightforward softening case if you want one at all.
Nobleton and Schomberg are supplied entirely from groundwater wells within York Region, and they run at roughly 264 mg/L. That is almost exactly double King City, in the same township, under the same council. Groundwater dissolves minerals on its way through sediment, which is why the two figures diverge so sharply despite the villages being a short drive apart.
Beyond the three serviced villages, a large share of King Township is rural land on private wells, where there is no regional figure at all and the water on one property tells you very little about the next.
So "what does King water need" has at least three answers. The only way to arrive at yours is to test at your own tap, and on a private well that means a lab sample rather than a field kit — which we would run before quoting, not after.
Which system depends on your zone. Lake-fed addresses usually need softening alone; well-fed addresses need iron and sulphur handled first. The on-site test settles it in about ten minutes.
